Need some thoughts please...

I was talking to my mom the other day and she said that my dad no longer leaves the house....today when talking she said he's barely eaten anything at all the last two days....

My heart is telling me this isn't a good thing....

I just pray that everything will be ok till we leave to go visit on Feb 8th - we are going up for a few days to celebrate Trevor's birthday and see dad....

My heart is breaking....please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers....it means a great deal to me!!!

Hugs Erin,
Sweetie from my experience, which I've had a few, when they are getting close to the end, their body doesn't need the food anymore, therefore they stop eatting. But this doesn't mean that it's going to happen in hours, it could be as long as a few weeks, as long as he is still taking in water. If you need someone to talk to, trying calling your local Hospice Center!!! They are great people, and helped me when I was taking care of my g-ma until the end. I know this isn't easy for you, and I know your heart is breaking. If you need someone to talk to you can email me anytime. I'm praying for you and your family!!!
Take care,
Angel

Hi Erin ~ I have unfortunately also had a lot of experience in this situation. There could be many reasons why he's stopped eating. My advice to you is follow your heart. I don't know how far away he is from you, but if you feel that you might not make it to him in time - go now. Even if your wrong...you'll feel better. ((hugs)) I will be thinking of you!

As a minister's wife, he may also be going through a depression..this is where Hospice can (or their minister if they have one) help. Hospice does so much more than just the final days and they are a great resource to tap into.

I would also recommend a product called Ageless Essentials...it is a whey based protein superfood. It has all the ingredients (natural) of 8-10 servings of veggies and fruits. It can even be thinned down to be put in a feeding tube. It is healthier for him than Ensure (theirs has processed sugar). Two of these can replace a meal, one is great for supplementing it. My ND has had me on it for about 6 months now. It will give him the nutrition he needs without overwhelming him. It is also easy to digest in a liquid form...so easy to digest that my daughter takes it before a volleyball game...no burp back/upset stomache.
If you have any questions about it, email me at dalecorri@aol (dot)com.
